For my internship, I was a basketball trainer. I trained kids from 8-13 years of age at my AAU coach basketball facility from JUNE 2021 - AUG 2021.
DAILY JOURNAL
JUNE 14-18: My first week of training kids. I would say it was very stressful and not easy. I remember being a kid that age but trying to make them listen was hard. Most of the kids were beginners in basketball so I let them feel the game for the first week.
JUNE 21-25: The second week I got them to listen more and pay attention to what I got to teach them. I asked my coach for ways I can have fun in basketball and also learn. I taught them how to dribble a basketball, running up and down the court with that ball and controlling the ball
JULY: 12-16: For the third week, the kids have gotten better and mature which was great. I moved on to teaching them how to shoot a basketball. This week was all about the right form and hand placements on the ball when you shoot it. Shooting a basketball is the main part of basketball
JULY 19-23: My fourth week on training, I taught them how to pass the ball and play defense. A lot of them didn't know what defense was, all they really wanted to do was shoot the ball. I had to show them how to move their feet and stop your opponent from scoring for defense
JULY 26-30: Since its been a month now, I have seen a huge difference in how to play. I went back to the basics and trained them on dribbling and shooting the basketball.
AUG 2-6: My sixth week, keep seeing improvement, I arrive 10 minutes early before the workout starts, and I see 6 of the kids already practicing which makes me happy to see that they enjoy playing.
AUG 9-13: For the seventh week, my last week training before school starts back up, I have them working on shooting threes, and layups. I would place cones on the court and use a bag for contact when they go up for a layup.
